Main Data

Explora Journeys is a luxury cruise line registered in Switzerland and based in Geneva. It is part of the Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A. (MSC Group), the world’s second-biggest container shipping operator.
In October 2018, MSC confirmed an order for four luxury cruise ships to be built by Fincantieri for a total value exceeding EUR 2 billion. The vessels will have gross tonnage of approximately 64,000 GT and will feature the latest and most advanced environmental and maritime technologies available.
In September 2019, Michael Ungerer was announced as the CEO of the new luxury division of MSC. Mr. Ungerer joined MSC with over 30 years of senior management experience in cruising and luxury hospitality.
In March 2021, MSC announced details of five senior members of its management team lead by CEO Michael Ungerer.
In June 2021, MSC announced the brand name and more details about Explora Journeys.
In June 2021, Fincantieri cut the steel for EXPLORA I at its yard in Monfalcone, Italy on 10 June during a ceremony attended by representatives from MSC Group, Explora Journeys and Fincantieri’s management team. A long held maritime tradition, this moment celebrates the commencement of the building process for the first ship from Explora Journeys, EXPLORA I, which is scheduled to set sail in 2023.
